This post was originally written after one of our attorneys, Megan Harris-Pero,had the opportunity to speak to a group of mostly beginning farmers at the NOFA-NY 2016 Conference (Northeast Organic Farming Association of NY) about legal issues.

While we can’t change the economy, our firm, Harris-Pero & Botelho, PLLC, is happy to assist agricultural businesses and owners of agricultural land to feel more secure with their legal futures.

One client sent us an official looking email from a Company claiming that an annual renewal needed to be paid so that the Company could continue being their registered agent and that lack of payment would cause suspension and cancellation of their entity. This Company and website was not an official government office. We suggest ignoring those emails and reporting to the NY Attorney General's Office.

There are lots of things that our small businesses use that we can make better choices about and maybe even get a little bit of a tax break.

Have a plan in place as a starting point. You can always evaluate and modify your plan. The first step is to make a plan and put it in writing!
