Celebrating Our New Name and Saratoga County Chamber Membership

Cutting the ribbon!

We recently celebrated our rebranding as the Harris-Pero Law Firm, cutting the ribbon as the newest member of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. Surrounded by clients, partners, and friends, we also welcomed New York State Senator Jim Tedisco and representatives from the Saratoga Plan and Agricultural Stewardship Association.

A beautiful autumn morning created the perfect backdrop to reflect on our growth and continued commitment to clients in estate planning, estate settlement, elder law and business law

First, we officially welcomed Amelia Scaglione and Emily O’Halloran to our team, which includes Annie Vigilante, Ruta Tomik, and Megan McLaughlin, in addition to our founder, Megan Harris-Pero. Today, we serve clients at our offices on Maple Ave. in Saratoga Springs, filled with beautiful art by Michael George. Since Covid, we continue to offer video conferencing, for added meeting convenience.

When we started in 2015, however, it was a different story.

A different kind of law firm

Megan Harris-Pero began the firm from the basement of her Wilton home. After working in large and boutique law firms, she admits her impression of attorneys wasn’t the best. After experiencing the family distress caused by unexpected catastrophes, she envisioned a different kind of law firm. One that worked more closely with families and businesses over time, preparing them for emergencies and guiding them through life transitions.

“I wanted to engage clients in the kinds of conversations they might have at their kitchen table,” Harris-Pero explained at the event. “Then, through the practice of law, be able to assist them with their goals.”

The Harris-Pero team is joined by clients, partners and fellow Saratoga County Chamber members.

New name, same core values

Since then, the firm has gone through two transformations and name changes – first, as a partnership of two attorneys, and now, as a firm with a true team spirit. And while size and location has changed, Harris-Pero told guests at the event her team remains true to the same core values that motivated her to start the firm:

  1. We are here to help. We help make change less scary by using the legal system to make life transitions easier.

  2. We seek to understand and learn. Our clients bring unique problems. We seek to understand them, so we address the right issues from the start.

  3. We have a compassionate voice. We often meet our clients as they are going through some of the hardest times in their lives. We are always compassionate when working together.

  4. We solve problems. We help clients keep wealth in the family. Protect the family farm and other businesses. Plan head, so they are prepared to face challenges like long term care costs and taxes.

Farms and conservation

As a small business, New York State Senator Jim Tedisco praised Harris-Pero for continuing to serve clients through the pandemic, while keeping people employed and helping families and businesses navigate change. He also praised the firm for their work with local farms.

Hon. Jim Tedisco, New York State Senator, offers a proclamation to honor the Harris-Pero Law Firm, congratulating them on surviving the challenges of the Covid pandemic and continuing to serve and support New York State farms.

The Harris-Pero Law Firm is proud to serve dozens of New York State farmers and agricultural businesses, leading them through succession planning, conservation easements, expansion, and other legal matters. A friend of the firm, Arnold’s Farm Fresh Produce, in West Charlton, provided cider and donuts at the ribbon cutting, as well as pumpkins for each guest to take home.

Joining the Saratoga County Chamber

Calling it, “the little law firm that could,” Harris-Pero told guests she is most proud of how many people it has inspired to “think they can.”

“Not only the attorneys and staff of the firm, but the many small businesses, local farms and families we have worked with,” Harris-Pero explained. “Joining the Chamber is the next logical step. We love supporting our community and as we grow, we look forward to helping others and connecting with more small businesses in Saratoga County.”

Andrea Cole, Vice-President, Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, presented Megan Harris-Pero with the ribbon that was cut at the event.
