NY STAR Exemption vs. STAR Credit: What is the difference?
If you want to reapply for the STAR Exemption:
If for one of the reasons in the chart pictured you want to make sure you have the STAR Exemption, you can check with your Assessor to find out if they need you to refile your application, or you can reapply just in case.
To reapply, you need to fill out a new application for Basic or Enhanced STAR. If you are reapplying because you have transferred your primary residence to a Trust, note that if you retained rights to use and occupy the property that you are the owner on the application (not the Trustee).
Form RP-425-B – Application for Basic STAR Exemption:

If you are applying for Enhanced STAR you need to file RP-425-IVP as well as the Application. We recommend that you look online for your local Assessor’s website to see if they have any additional requirements.
If you want to apply or reapply for the STAR Credit:
You can apply for the STAR Credit by using this website:

You cannot apply for the STAR Credit through your local assessor, you must apply through the State on their website. The application is very quick and easy!
